Google Insights for Search and blog statistics

Posted by Gilles on 15/05/2009 under Articles | Be the First to Comment

I’ve been interested in numbers and figures since my first childhood memories. With the start of this blog I’m keeping track of visitor statistics. Next to that I love my statistics on Last.FM, but also my statistics on my I-tunes library (on which I build my first Qlikview Demo ever, that’s why I like the Qlikview Music Tracker demo), statistics about my hattrick team and so, looking for statistics for the blog, I came across Google Insights for Search. In this post I want to share some insights in the traffic this blog generates and some statistics about searches for the blog and for qlikview. Read more of this article »

Distribution of documents with publisher standard edition: a workaround

Posted by William on 06/05/2009 under Articles, How To | 2 Comments to Read

A (really annoying) shortcoming of publisher standard edition is that it lacks the functionality of distribution. It’s not possible to up- and download Qlikview documents from and to the accesspoint using the browser or Qlikview developer (only possible with the enterprise edition which costs over € 10 000 more).

Why is that? Shouldn’t this be standard functionality?

Macro to set sheet object properties: move/resize

Posted by Juan on under How To | 12 Comments to Read

Among the tasks related to preparing a QlikView document for a production environment, there is one that tends to be underestimated: fixing the position and size of sheet objects. If the user interface is large enough (lots of sheets packed with objects, some of them hidden), manually changing the object properties one at a time can be a daunting task!

More often than not, it is irrelevant or misleading to allow the end user to move/resize objects such as list boxes, multiboxes, inputboxes, current selections and text objects. There is an option to automate fixing the objects: in QlikView Server Management Console / General we find a checkbox “Disallow moving and sizing objects” which is a switch that turns off this setting for all documents. Qlikview Application Performance Trimming

Posted by Gilles on 05/05/2009 under How To | 3 Comments to Read

In general performance is improved by moving the “problem” from application objects to the script driven database. This is often a trade off situation. Response time is enhanced and ad hoc capability is diminished. The recommendations below should not be seen as universally beneficial. Use them when they improve the general state of the application or when they make that little bit of difference that makes or breaks.

Cases:

1. Count ( Distinct ‘FieldName’)

2. If ( Condition(Text),…..)

3. Sum ( If (Condition, ‘FieldName’…))

4. If ( Condition, Sum(‘FieldName’)..)

5. If ( Condition1, Sum(‘FieldName’),

If (Condition2, Sum(‘FieldName’)……..

6. Sort text

7. Dynamic captions and text objects

8. Macro triggers ( “on change” )

No colours when printing chart

Posted by William on under How To | Read the First Comment

Last week I had a tremendous strange problem with printing charts in colour. The only thing I got from the printer (yeah I’m sure it was a colour printer ;-) ) were black and white charts with ugly patterns from both Qlikview developer as Internet Explorer (plugin).

The importance of a Qlikview Business Intelligence Plan

Posted by William on under How To | 3 Comments to Read

Although Qlikview projects are characterized trough their short run-time, the need of a solid plan is always there. Question is however, what should be defined and clarified to ensure a stable progress towards a solution which meets customer expectations?

Project requirements
First and foremost, it is important to define the project requirements. In other words, what is it that the business needs? Also think about the analysis requirements that are important for the business of your customer? This could be things like:
•    KPI’s
•    Sales prognosis
•    Trend analysis
•    Geographic analysis
•    Etc.

Qlikcommunity 2.0

Posted by William on 04/05/2009 under Articles | Be the First to Comment

A couple of weeks ago, the new Qlikcommunity site went online. Therefore, during the switch between old and new, the forum was read only for a couple of days. It was just in that time, I had a Qlikview implementation at one of our customers.

“Ain’t no sunshine when she’s gone”

It’s in those times that you realise the real value of such a great forum. I had a couple of questions. Normally I post those questions on the forum, continue with some other activities, and mostly within one hour I have a solution (of course this depends on the nature of the question itself). Not this time. I had to spend a full day before I had a working solution (maybe this says more about me then the Qlikcommunity itself ;-) ).
